The Boston Transcript, June 18, 1930, (New Series): Edward's wife is given by some as Magaret Hicks, but letters addressed to those who are supposed to have the authority for this statement are as yet unanswered. Edward was born about 1607, married to first wife and mother of his children about 1630. She died Aug. 23, 1670, and her gravestone is known as the oldest in Congregational graveyard at Killingworth, Ct., now Clinton.

The Boston Transcript, March 2, 1925, #2668: Margaret, wife of Edward
Griswold, died at Killingworth, now Clinton, Conn. Her gravestone still stands.
On it are the initials M. G. and the date 1670. Edward Griswold, after her
death, returned to Windsor, where his sons George and Joseph settled and died
there in 1691. A picture of Margaret's gravestone is shown in an article on
the Griswold family in the Connecticut Magazine, vol. xii., No. 3 (1908); also
the Griswold coat-of-arms. In this article it states that Edward Griswold had
twelve children. Of the sons Francis settled at Norwich, Conn., George and
Joseph at Windsor, Conn., and John at Killingworth.

1670, Aug. 23. Vol II, p 350 Stiles: Margaret Griswold, mother of eleven
children, was a real pioneer pilgrim. After nine years of married life in
England, with five baby children, she braved the wilderness of the New World at
Windsor. Her she lived for a full quarter of a century, and then lived for
seven years in the new virgin town of Kenilworth, Conn., which was named for
her home town in England. At about 60 years of age she passed to her reward.
Her gravestone marked "M. G. 1670" is known as the oldest monument in the
Congregational graveyard at Clinton, CT. (formerly part of killingworth). The
author of a Griswold Gen. who lives in Syracuse, N. Y., is authority for the
name Hicks (W. W. letter of Oct. 7, 1917).
