Individual Details
Edward COTTLE
(1594 - 1653)
This is the profile that I wrote for WikiTree:
Edward Cottle of Salisbury, Wiltshire, England is often cited as the father of colonists William Cottle and Edward Cottle. However, there seems to be no direct evidence of this relationship. The claim rests, instead, on arguable inferences made by respected genealogists. Savage, for example, states that William Cottle (of Newbury) was the son of Edward; Hoyt, however, disagrees noting that the death date given by Savage is the same date as the death of Edward, the infant son of Edward Cottle (of Salisbury, MA).
Many amateur genealogies appearing on web sites list Christian as the wife of Edward. I have never found a citation in these family trees, aside from referencing other amateur family trees.
Nevertheless, I have included both of the claimed children and the claimed wife because, otherwise, they would be merged in anyway. At least, with these disclaimers, there is hope that those planning to merge profiles will investigate the situation.
