Lorah STANDISH

(Abt 1660 - Aft 2 Aug 1725)

Lorah Standish was born about 1660 to Alexander Standish and his first wife, Sarah Alden. About 1680, she married Abraham Sampson, Jr. The date of marriage and the date of birth are successively inferred from the 1682 birthdate of her first child.

The will of her father, Alexander, as amended by a near-death codicil left almost nothing to the children of the first marriage. Abraham Sampson, in behalf of himself, Lorah, and three other daughters with their husbands, contested the will stating that Alexander had promised to remember his daughters in his will. The will was proved despite their protest. However, they succeeded in identifying a parcel of land that was not mentioned in the will. Because the land could not be divided practically, it was awarded to Miles Standish with the requirement that he pay each of his sisters £10. [Mayflower Descendants, Alden, p 109].

As Lorah is mentioned in Abraham’s will, it can be assumed that she survived him.
