HUDSON FALLS - Wendy L. Sabo, 55, of Hudson Falls, died at Glens Falls Hospital on Wednesday, June 22, 2005, following a long illness.
Born Oct. 5, 1949, in Troy, she was the daughter of Dorothy (Van Keuren) Lardner and the late Rev. Walter C. Lardner, and was named after the Wendy character in J. M. Barrie's Peter Pan.
A 1967 graduate of Hudson Falls High School, she attended SUNY Cobleskill and Adirondack Community College, earning an associate's degree in accounting.
She began her accounting career with John Day in Hudson Falls prior to moving to Shreveport, La. to become manager of the Quality Inn of Shreveport. Returning to upstate New York, she worked for many years in the accounting department of Acme Electric in Cuba, N.Y., until her move back to Hudson Falls in 1992. She was most recently an assistant vice president in the trust department of Glens Falls National Bank and Trust Co. Wendy was also active as a volunteer with The Hyde Collection and Big Brothers, Big Sisters, and served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Samaritan Counseling Center and the Center for Independent Living.
Wendy enjoyed her friends and family, and vacationing on the New Hampshire coast each summer. Her compassion for others and her ever present smile will be greatly missed.
In addition to her mother, Dorothy Lardner, of Hudson Falls, Wendy is survived by her son, Eric Sabo and his girlfriend, Theresa Efner, of South Glens Falls; her sister, Barbara Moore and her husband, Jim, of Potomac, Md., her sister, June Leary and her husband, Daniel, of Hudson Falls her nieces and nephews David Moore and his wife, Helen, of Cambridge, Mass., and Dorothy, Louis, Zoe, and Charlotte Waters, all of Hudson Falls; and her ex-husband Tony Sabo of Hudson Falls.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St., Hudson Falls.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday at the Zion Episcopal Church, 226 Main St., in Hudson Falls, with the Rev Wayne Bowers, rector, officiating.
Following the memorial Mass, all are welcome to gather at the Zion Episcopal Church Hall, located behind the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Wendy's name to Zion Episcopal Church, 226 Main St., Hudson Falls, N.Y. 12839.
