Notes
Residence
Todd Ebetino, son of Fred and Elizabeth HELSTERN Ebetino and grandson of John and Alice ERBAUGH Helstern reports that Calvin "homesteaded in Montana in the early 1900s. I visited his ranch in 1948 with my grandparents. The sod house they had built when they first arrived was still standing but they were living in a better house. I remember that they still mined their own coal by hand from a coal mine located on their own land. They would take a wheelbarrow into the mine, dig loose some coal, load the wheelbarrow and then raise it to the upper level with ropes attached to the wheelbarrow."Russ HELSTERN also visited "Uncle Cal's ranch" one summer, date unknown, but his daughter MarySue remembers the skin of the rattlesnake that was shot and eaten which he brought home. as a keepsake.
