Phillip ERBAUGH
(Feb 1853 - 31 Jul 1935)
#3 Erbaugh family "Grandpa Erbaugh had relatives all over Madison Twp and that part of Montg Co. He married a Susan Bowser.... One day a cousin said, ‘Russ, look what I found among Grandpa’s papers. ’ It was a little piece of paper about 4 by 8 inches; special looking paper. It was the deed to a section of land along Wolf Creek and Gettysburg Ave and it was signed by James Madison as Sec. Of State. So I guess some of the relatives were settled there for a good long time.... Some of the Bowser kin living on a piece of that land up into the late 1940's....
Grandpa Erbaugh’s family partly settled there; one of them went to Montana; the city drove all of them out of farming...."

Notes
Birth
1870 Federal census of Montgomery Co, Jackson Twp OH: Two Philip Erbaughs are listed. Both are farm laborers and born in OH. One is 18 yo and is listed separately from any household. The other, 17 yo, is listed with the household of "Eliza E. Erbaugh, 44 yo" born in PA whose parents were foreign-born. Two older sons, three younger sons and 1 younger daughter are listed in this household, all born in OH.If one of these is ancestor Phillip Erbaugh, the age listed would indicate a birth date of 1853/54..
1880 Federal census of Montg Co, Harrison Twp OH: "Philip Erbaugh, farmer" is 26 yo, head of a household consisting of wife "Susan, 21 yo" and 2 children, "Mary, age 2 [and] Bessie, age 1" and his "brother William, age 29".
This would indicate a birthdate for Philip of 1854.
The Erbaugh family tree on Ancestry.com owned by Steven Erbaugh indicates that Phillip Erbaugh was born in Indiana. I question this since all of his siblings, both younger and older, were born in Ohio.
Marriage
Remembrances of Vinna (Bowers) Helstern, tape-recorded 1989 by Bob Gross#3B Philip Erbaugh and Susan Bowser, "[Russ’s] Erbaugh grandparents, were married by Elder Peter Nead in his home near the Happy Corner Church."
A. James HELSTERN: "Philip and Susan [BOWSER] ERBAUGH had 12 children. Pearl [Smith] died of TB. Bessie was second."
Property
The property remained in the Erbaugh family from purchase until the 1940's when bought out by City of Dayton.Ordination
