Remembrances of Vinna (Bowers) Helstern, tape-recorded 1989 by Bob Gross#3 Bowers family "Floy was never able to trace the Bowers family back to Europe. There were too many in the Bowers clan that liked the name of Jacob; one census had about a dozen; not able to find a clue as to which one goes beyond Lancaster PA. MSR wrote history of Center Church; Jacob Samuel Bowers was one of 12 deacons in whose homes the congregation met until the church was built. This was my father’s grandfather (or great?). Floy did research in Stark Co.; got location in Osnaburg Twp of the farm that Jacob Samuel sold when he moved to Hancock County. [It was the SW] corner diagonally across from the Center parsonage. Two-story white frame house moved in road re-construction contained a log cabin..."
