James John Casteel was born in Virginia in 1790 and is buried in Bedford County, Tn in New Herman Cemetery having died between about 1858. He married Elizabeth thought to be McMellon (family oral history) in 1807 and settled on Flat Creek near Shelbyville, Tennessee. Their children were Jemima Adeline Casteel, William Casteel, James Preston Casteel, Nancy Casteel, Parthenia Casteel, Sarah called Sallie Casteel, Blackstone Casteel, and Abraham Casteel. Abraham was murdered in 1863 on his farm. He was a widower at the time his wife having died in 1860. He is buried in Flat Creek near New Herman/Chestnut Ridge. There are no records indicating that his middle name was Calloway. There is another James John Casteel buried in Missouri. I believe that the Abraham Calloway that you mention is his son. The James John Casteel buried in Missouri married several times and had several sets of children. He is often referred to as Indian John Casteel.
William, son of James John Casteel, married Elizabeth Casteel daughter of Dr. William Reese Burdette, Jr. and Sarah Lowe of Bedford County. She died in Flat Creek in 1850. He then married Sarah Womack. Abraham Casteel married Mahaley Burdette their daughter. She died in 1860. He died three years later.
