John Franklin Lumsden

COLUMBUS - John Franklin Lumsden, 82, passed away January 11, 2016, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be Thursday, January 14, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Beersheba Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Tim Lee, the Rev. Jaron Andrews and Charlie Studdard officiating.
The interment will immediately follow in Beersheba Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be Thursday, January 14, 2016, from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service. Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Lumsden was born June 23, 1933, in Dewitt, Arkansas, to the late Walter and Luella Lumsden. He received his bachelors degree in Business from Arkansas Tech University. Mr. Lumsden served in the United States Army and Mississippi National Guard for many years and retired as a lieutenant colonel in the Guard. He owned and operated Lowndes County Radial Tire for many years. John was also an active genealogist and Scotchman and served for several years as the head of the Lumsden clan in North America.
John's greatest love was for his family. He lovingly cared for his wife of 62 years, Jane, whom he cared for at home for 14 years during a prolonged illness. He cherished and supported his five children, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He organized many family reunions and get togethers. His family was always at the center of his life.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Lumsden was preceded in death by a daughter, Laura Lumsden; brothers, Oliver Lumsden and Avery Lumsden; and sister, Alice Brown.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Lumsden; daughter, Lisa Holloway and her husband, Ron; son, John K. "Chief" Lumsden; daughter, Mary Diane "Dee Dee" Andrews and her husband, Dave; son, Jeremy Lumsden and his wife, Heather; grandchildren, Jaron Andrews and his wife, Meredith, Heather Rivera and her husband, Roberto, Lee Andrews, Jonathan Lumsden, Hays Lumsden and Mallory Lumsden, and great-grandchildren, Neely Andrews, Anna Beth Andrews, and Presley Andrews; brother, Robert Lumsden; and sister, Edith Smith.
The family would like to acknowledge family friends and caregivers, Sara Ellis and Diana Granger, for the tender loving care they provided as well as Dr. J Tan for his guidance and support.
Pallbearers will be Ron Holloway, Roberto Rivera, Corky Jones, Buzz Soule, Heath Forrester and Salathiel Lumsden.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Joe Studdard, Howard Jenkins, Tommy Hall, Wayne Eaves, Wayne Ellis, Leroy Nickels, Vic Lancaster and Jimmy Galloway.
