Elwanda Maxine "Wannie" Hays

(6 Sep 1921 - 11 May 2002)

Elwanda was one of the many boarders in the home of Kenney & Nora Comstock after they moved to Fayetteville near the University. She shared JoEllen's bedroom for a time. In a note of condolence written to Nora following Kenney's death she said, "I'll never forget one Sunday afternoon, Dec. 7, 1941, when Uncle Kenney paced the floor worrying about his boys going into service."

As most of you cousins know, my sister Wannie passed away May 11 in Little Rock. John and I along with Peggy and Wayne and Nancy went to Little Rock for the funeral. Mary Jo came over from Hot Springs. The funeral was just what we all wanted to hear....a celebration of the life of Wannie with talks made by her best friend, a former boss and her grandson David.
Since Wannie had been in a nursing home for the last eight years, we didn't expect to see so many at the funeral. But they did come remembering how she was in the good times!
Thank you all for your cards and calls.
Jane
