M. C. Benefield, 101, a resident of Ola, died September 27, 2007, at his home.
He was born September 18, 1906, in Briggsville to James and Agusta Smith Benefield. M. C. was retired from Shipper's Ice and also had been a barber, truck driver, and mail man. He was of the Baptist faith. He loved gardening and telling friends and family stories. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret Benefield; his son, Bob Benefield; and all of his brothers and sisters.
Survivors include a granddaughter and her husband, Pamela and John Kemp of Calexico, California; three great grandchildren, Shelley, Jackie and Chris Kemp all of Escondido, California; an honorary daughter, Billie Sharp of Ola; three special friends, Robert Avery of Dardanelle, Marcella Nichols of Ola, and Jewel Hampton of Dardanelle; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, September 29, 2007, at the Shinn Chapel with the Rev. David Bond officiating. Burial will be in Ola-Sandlin Cemetery at Ola under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service.
Active pallbearers will be Leon Smith, Verlon Scott, Don McCoy, David Garrett, Dale McCoy, and Allen Benefield. Dr. Karl Sandberg will serve as honorary pallbearer.
The family will receive friends from 5-6 p.m., Friday at the funeral home
