Early Pioneer Woman Dies Thurs
Mrs. Martha Maish, 86, one of the early pioneer women of the Blackduck country, died at the Bemidji Lutheran hospital last Thursday, February 24. She had been ill for some time. She had been a resident here for 56 years.
Martha Ann Maish was born in Levlin, Indiana, on October 4, 1868. She came to the Blackduck country before the turn of the century with her husband and family and has made her home here continuously since that time. Her husband, Sherman Maish, passed away in 1918.
She is survived by eight daughters and two sons. They are Mrs. Harry (Mable) Hoselton, Detroit Lakes, Mrs. Ed (Nell) Johnson, Thief River Falls; Mrs. Oscar (Grace) Bohn, Squaw Lake, Wm. Maish Blackduck; Mrs. Charles (Marv) Bogart, Everett, Wash; Fred Maish, Renton, Wash; Mrs. Ed (Gladys) Johnson, Bemidji; Mrs. Victor (Vie) Lindquist, Anoka, Mrs. Louis (Jane) Eng, Kirkland, Wash.; and Mrs. Oliver (Ellen) Horton, Squaw Lake.
One daughter, Lottie, died in infancy. Also surviving are 91 grandchildren and 83 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. James B. Prichard, pastor of the church, officiating, and interment was made in Lakeview Cemetery.
