To my wife Mary Gosling all my estate both real & personal during her natural life except she marries and if she should marry then all the estate to be took out of her hands and given as hereafter bequeathed:
To son SIMON GOSLING all my lands in Prince William County lying on Neabsco patented by John GOSLING containing two hundred acres be the same more or less, also a negroe man named Jack after the marriage or death of his mother and in case my son Simon dies before the sale made of the lands or issue lawfully begotten of his body then the above said lands and slave to be divided betwix William ROOKARD, Elizabeth VEAL and Mary COLVERT.
To my daughter Mary COLVERT a negroe man named Ceaser to her and the heirs of her body lawfull begotten and for want of such heirs to be divided betwixt Simon GOSLING, Wm. ROOKARD and Elizabeth VEAL or their heirs to be delivered at the marriage or death of my wife. To John ROOKARD son of Thomas ROOKARD deceased a good feather bed, sheets, pillow and cases, rug, blanket, bed cord and bedstead to be delivered him when he comes of age as also two cows and calves, two pewter dishes and 3 plates to be delivered at the same time and provided he dies before he comes of lawful age or without lawful issue then the said legacy to go to the oldest of William ROOKARD's children when they come of age.
All the rest of my personal estate I give to be equally divided at the death or marriage of my wife betwixt Wm. ROOKARD, Elizabeth VEAL, Simon GOSLING, Mary COLVERT or their heirs.
I make and appoint my loving wife Mary GOSLING whole and sole exe. of my will and Richard BLACKBURN and William ROOKWARD (sic) executors entrust......(I can supply the rest if you want - legal talk) signed John GOSLING.
Witnesses: Richard CRUPPER, John CHAMP, Charles HARRISON.
Proved 25 August 1740 by Richard CRUPPER and John CHAMPE, 26 August 1740 further proven by Charles HARRISON. Mary GOSLING sole executor therein named being DEAD, on the motion of William ROOKARD, certificate is granted to him for obtaining letters of administration (page 257-258).
Bond of William ROOKARD, John CANTERBURY and John CARR unto Denis McCARTY, Gent, justice. For 200 lbs, 26 Aug 1740, Wm. ROOKARD is administrator of John GOSLING. Signed William ROOKARD. Witnesses: John CANTERBURY, John CARR.
