James Quincy Wood Sr., 65, died Tuesday in the Veterans Adminstration Medical Center.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Reed-Culver Funeral Chapel with Reverend H. E. Alsup officiating.
Burial will be in Shirley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lenn Step, Earl Murr, Wilson Howard, Reverend John Pruett, Ted Martin, Don Tudo and Paul Wood.
Born August 10, 1913 in Long. He was a graduate of Tahlequah Central High School, and received his bachelor of education in music from Northeastern State University and received his masters in school administration from Oklahoma University.
He served with the U.S. Army during World War Two, where he served in Tennian, and the Siapan Islands with the Quartermaster Corps. His teaching career started in Cherokee County where he taught for seven years and then was the high school principal in Jennings before going to California.
He taught in California for 17 years before retiring in 1972. He held a lifetime membership in the California Teaching Association and was a member of American Association of Retired People, senior citizens of Tahlequah, American Legion Post 135 and Southside Baptist Church. He was noted for playing various string musical instruments.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, LaVonna in 1970.
