Funeral Slated Thursday for Detective O. R. Brown
Funeral services for Detective Capt Otis R. Brown, 64, will be held at 2:30 pm Thursday at Evans Avenue Baptist Church with bural in Rose Hill.
The veteran homicide office died Tuesday in a hosptial. Brown of 829 E. Gambrell, had been ill several months.
He joined the police department on ep 2, 1923. His rise through the ranks reached its peak on Nov 1, 1953, when he was promoted to detective captain.
For many years he headed the department's homicide division. Many officer considered him the pivotal man in the detective office for years.
"He was exceptionally good at getting information," said Police Chief Cate Hightower, "Lots of times he secured information to clear big crimes and didn't take any credit for it."
So numerous were his sources that Brown often could obtain vital information simply by making a few phone calls from his office. He also excelled at interrogation.
Brown is survived by his wife; five brothers, Cecil Bown of Plainview, Irel and Coy Brown of Bells, Marvin Brown of Serman, and Paul Brown of Denver; and four sisters, Mrs. M. V. Ford, Miss Velma Brown and Mrs. Janette Brown of Bells and Mrs. C. M. Dillon of Whitewright.
