Samuel & Abigail's son Samuel Root was born 3 Jan 1724, Southington, CT and, d. 8 Apr 1782 in Cheshire MA; married in 1757 to Chloe Palmer, b. 1739, d. 1794. Samuel enlisted as a private soldier, 30 Mar 1777 in Capt. Stoddard's Company, Col. Hooker's CT Regt. He was discharged 16 May 1777. He again entered service 8 Jan 1778, Capt. Grant's Co, Col. Johnson's Regt. He enlisted 16 Apr 1780 for term of the War from Southington CT, and served in Capt. James Wilcox's Company, Regt of Artificers (skilled worker, craftsman, mechanic, etc)
