Matthew married Ann Hurt, daughter of Benjamin and Ann Hurt who land adjoined that of the Peatross land. Benjamin Hurt's will of 1781, names his daughter as Ann Peatross and Matthew was one of the executors. It is known that he left a will as it was presented to the Caroline court for probate, but the copy has not survived. Mathew's children are mostly unknown.

Matthew's father Matthew & Benjamin Hurt had a longstanding disagreement over the location of a mill. Matthew's brother William testified in February, 1807, that he remembered his father told old Mr. Hurt that he, Hurt, had been trespassing on three acres of land and Mr. Hurt agreed to move his fence as soon as his crop was taken up. Richard & Thomas Peatross agreed that Benjamin Hurt had purchased the share of his brother William Hurt but stated that the land was no free until the death of their mother, Ann Hurt. Ann & Benjamin Hurt [presumably the younger] were served notice that they were not to build a mill on the three acres.

Ann Hurt Peatross must have died by 1816, for the land held in Matthew's estate was transferred to John Peatross in that year, presumably their son.

John's wife was Mary DeJarnett:
13 Jan 1823 John DeJarnett died many years ago and left his widow Fanny her dower of land and slaves. Elliott DeJarnet was administrator. The rest of the slaves were divided between John Peatross in right of his wife Polly, Richard Norment in right of his wife Frances, and John F. DeJarnett. The widow is now dead and her slaves are to be distributed to the three heirs, viz Polly, Frances, and John F. DeJarnett.
12 Sep 1823. Deed of Trust of John Peatross for benefit of his wife Mary and Frances, Ann, Mary, and Absalom, children of said John and Mary Peatross. He sells, the land left by his father, Matthew, the other purchased from John Sutton, to Richard Norment.

And there was likely a daughter Joannah:
The following has been ascribed to different Joannah's. One is Richard's sister Joannah, but a lady who was age 50 in 1850, born in 1799, could not have been his sister. Richard's father Matthew died circa 1768. Others have placed her Richard's daughter, yet the following request states her father was a Matthew. It would appear she was a daughter of the younger Matthew and a niece of Richard.

Joanna Peatross md Joseph Lawrence in Caroline County VA.
(Not sure of the date .) they moved to Rutherford County TN in 1834.

1841, April 24, a letter from Joannah T. Lawrence of Rutherford County TN to Henry Hill of Hanover County VA. She writes concerning the Death of her husband on Oct 20, 1840. and requested a copy of the will of her father Mathew Peatross (Dec 1805) of Caroline County Va.(Have requested full copy form the library of VA.)
