MARGERY Hayward

( - Bef Aug 1644)

The inventory of the estate of widow Margery Wathen of Salem was taken 20 Jul 1644 and presented to the court at Salem on 27 Aug 1644. Reference to a debt said "delivred to Deborah for Mrs. Traske..."

Margery Worthen, widow of George, appears as a party to a law suit on Dec 27, 1642. She died in 1644. Her will is not on file, but the records show that she left one, making the two deacons of the church, "Mr. Charles Gott and John Horne", executors. (the prefix "Mr." shows that Gott was a man of higher standing or greater consequence in the community than Horne.) An inventory of her estate, including details of her wearing apparel and household effects was filed July 27, 1644. She and her husband left a house and lot in Salem. Her estate was distributed pusuant to an order of John Endicott, Governor, Dated Jan. 3, 1645. She left a son, Ezekiel, about 8 1/2 years old. There is also reason to believe she had older children as well.
