GEORGE WATHEN

(Abt 1598 - Bef Dec 1642)

2 or 12 Nov 1612, George Wathen, son of George Wathen, Sr., of Bristol, joiner, apprenticed to John Browne of the same place, joiner, and to his wife, for the term of eight years.

In the Parish register of Trowbridge, Wiltshire, England is found the following:
George Wathen and Margerie Heyward m. 14/15 Apr 1624
Debora Wathen, daughter of George and Margerie bp. 13 Mar 1624/5.

Both George Wathen, joyner, and Edward Wathen were admitted into the liberties of the city of Bristol on 16 Jul 1626.

George & Margery were in New England by 1638 when ....Wathin received a distribution of 10 acres of land in Lynn. He was appointed surveyor of fences in Salem, MA on 4 Apr 1640. He was admitted to the Salem church on 23 May 1641, but by 27 Dec 1642, his wife charged Thomas Tuck with trespass [if she had had a husband at that time, he would have brought the suit] so he died sometime between these two dates.

Only the oldest & youngest of their children, Deborah and Ezekiel, are known to have come to America. William & Elizabeth died young in England. Nothing further is known about John and Dorothy.
