Monique "Dollie" N. MARENTETTE

(25 Feb 1865 - 13 Mar 1942)

Two of the children of Joseph Boucher, George W. Bush and Delia Bush, both married individuals surnamed Marentette. Delia's husband, Clement Marentette, was described on the marriage record as born in Michigan, the son of Alexander Marentette and Eliza Henderson. Monique "Dollie" Marentette, the wife of George W., was described on their marriage record as being from Illinois, the daughter of Eugene Marentette -- no mother's name given. Because of these discrepancies, I thought that Clement and Dollie may have been cousins or distant relations, but were certainly not siblings. I subsequently found several censuses reporting that Dollie was actually born in Michigan, strengthening my suspicion that they were cousins. However, the death record of Dollie Monica Bush (which I finally found today, 20 Oct 2013) reports that her father's name was Marantette, and her mother's maiden name was Henderson. This suggests that Eugene and Alexander Marentette were the same person, and that Clement and Monique (Dollie) were brother and sister. The 1870 Census record for the family of Alexander and Eliza Marentett strengthens this argument, as it shows both "Clemen," age 8, and "Monick," age 6, among their children. Based on this evidence, I have combined the families.

Birth

The exact day and month are from the death record, and the 1900 Census confirms that she was born in February. Sources conflict about the year. The 1900 Census gives a birth year of 1865 and the death record says 1866. The most persuasive is the earliest however, the age of six on the 1870 Census indicates that she was born in 1864.

Marriage

Witnesses were Max Raboin and C. Marentette. Monique is recorded as being "of Illinois", and her father was Eugene Marentette.

Occupation: Salesman (employer) of general merchandise. He owned his home mortgage free. His one-year-old daughter had been born in Washington, so they must have moved to Idaho quite recently. The two previous children, ages 8 and 6, were born in Montana.

The three oldest sons have occupations listed, but I cannot make them out. This census image was very faded and difficult to read.
