Individual Details
Henry J. "Harry" MARTIN
(Aug 1873 - 27 Dec 1937)
Did Harry and Mary elope? I don't know why they would marry in Peshtigo. Also, although the ceremony was a religious one, it was officiated by Rev. Edwin Andrews, and the witnesses were Mrs. M.E. Andrews and Ethel D. Andrews. All in the family!
Harry's father died when he was two years old. After that, he lived with relatives in Saginaw, Michigan with his only sibling, Minnie. Minnie married Raymond Holmes, a wealthy lumberman from Daggett. Harry was living in Davison, Michigan with his mother and stepfather when Holmes invited him to come to Daggett to manage his farm. There he met and married Mary Raboin. After her untimely death, Harry married Marie H. Chartre in 1904. She had been a seamstress working for the Holmes family. They moved to Davison in 1905. Harry and Marie had two daughters and a son, in addition to Genevieve, the daughter from the first marriage.
The 1880 Census shows Henry, Minnie, and their mother, Theresa, living with Samuel and Suzette Munson at Buena Vista, Saginaw County, Michigan (FHL film 1254601, p. 116C, e.d. 296, image 0718).
Occupation (1930): electrical engineer
1930 U.S. Census (Dist. 55, Flint, Genesee, Michigan; e.d. 25-55, sheet 1A, p. 83) shows Henry and his second wife (Mary) and their children (Marian, age 22; Beatrice, age 21; and Bruce, age 15) at 511 E. Court Street. This census states that Harry's father was born in England.
