Rose RABOIN

(12 Feb 1891 - 1 Apr 1894)

Stella Raboin, her half-sister, remembers that she was usually called Rose. She was baptized Philomene Rosalie.

Her birth record at the Menominee County Clerk's Office wrongly refers to her as Rosa LACOMB, daughter of Moses LACOMB and Minnie LACOMB. The dates for this record match those for Rosalie RABOIN as per the baptism record, and there was no such LACOMB couple.

Rosalie died of burns after she got to close to the fire and her dress was ignited. The following is the story from the Menominee County Journal (7 April 1894):

While Mrs. Mose Raboin was outside a short time on Thursday her three year old daughter, who remained in the house, got too near a hot stove and her clothing caught fire. Before the mother returned the little girl was all ablaze and was so frightfully burned that death resulted. What a dreadful ending of a young life and heartrending sorrow to a family.   (Daggett corresp., Stephenson Gazette)
