A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away on July 1, 2007. Roberta Marie McGowan was born on June 26, 1939 in Chicago, IL. As a child, her family moved to San Jose, CA where she graduated from Notre Dame High School. She married Donald C. Wood on October 11, 1958. They later moved to Auburn in 1972 to raise their 6 children. On November 21, 1987 she married Ron Murch.
Roberta was a strong believer of community service. She volunteered, chaired many fundraising events and held various elected positions. She was affiliated with Beta Sigma Phi, Soroptimist International, Modern Woodmen of America, Girl Scouts of America, Auburn Moose Lodge, and the Auburn Area Chamber of Commerce.
Roberta worked within the community as an office manager at the old Allstate Packers in Newcastle and later at the Blue Anchor fruit shed in Loomis until it closed. She worked at Florin Box and Lumber before starting her own bookkeeping and income tax business in Auburn, Roberta's Business Services. The business excelled and twice was voted "Best of the Best" Tax Preparer in Auburn.
She is survived by her husband Ron Murch; 6 children, Annette Cosgrove (Meadow Vista), Jeanette Prout (Roseville), Debbie Daumen, Tricia Bushey, Donny Wood, Julie Riise (all of Whidbey Island, WA); sister Claudia Borzone (Danville, CA), Kathee McGowan (Scottsdale, AZ), brothers Mike McGowan (Santa Clara, CA), Pat McGowan (Poplar, CA); 20 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
Her family invites you to join them on Thursday, July 5, 2007 for the viewing starting at 11 a.m. with a memorial service beginning at 1 p.m. at Lassila Funeral Chapel in Auburn. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Heart Assoc. or the charity of your choice.
