In the name of God Amen, I William Ferrel of Russell County and Commonwealth of Virginia being weak in body by reason of sickness age and infirmity but perfect in mind and memory thanks be to God for all mercies and calling to mind the mortality of my body knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die etc. do make constitute and appoint this my last will and testament that is to say principally first I recommend my soul to God who gave it and my body I recommend to the earth from whence it was taken to be buried in a decent manner and form without pomp or vanity at the discretion of my Escecutor in hope of a joyful resurrection by Almighty power of God, and as for what worldly estate it has pleased God to bless me with in this life I give and bequeath in the manner following first I request all my just and lawful debts to be punctually paid - Item I give to my wife Jane Ferrel all my estate real and personally escept two notes on Jessee Thacker, and her to hold them for four of my daughters that is to say Jane Polly Emma & Martha that will be fifty dollars each this is all she holds her natural life or widowhood - Item I give to my son John Ferrell one dollar Item I give to my daughter Nancy Ferrell once Ferrell one dollar - Item I give to my daughter Sally Elison once Ferrell one dollar - Item Item I give to my son James Ferrell Item I give to my son Richard Ferrell one dollar - Item I give to my four daughters Jane Fields Polly Hartt Emma Calby and Martha Compton fifty dollars each at their mothers death that is if she should receives my Item I give to my daughter Levia Deele once Ferrell all that remains of my estate at her mothers death I do hereby ordain constitute and appoint James Fletcher and my wife Jane Ferrell my executors to this my last will and testiment ratifying and confirming this and this only to be my last will revoking disannulling all and every other will or bequeath by me made confirming this the last In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name and affisced my seal this nineteenth day of May in the Year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty two

At a Court of quarterly session held for Russell County at the Court house on Tuesday the 2nd day of August 1842
This instrument of writing was eschibited in Court as and for the last Will and Testament of William Ferrell dec'd and proven by the oaths of Rachall Fletcher and Nancy Jackson two of the subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded, and on motion of James Fletcher and Jane Ferrell executor and executrix therein named who made oath, and together with William Nash Benjamin Shoemaker and George W. Fields their securities entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penalty of $1000 conditioned as the law directs, certificate is granted the said James Fletcher and Jane Ferrell for obtaining probat of the said will in due form
