He was the first sheriff of Pike Co. Ky. There has been three men hanged in Pike Co. One was "Old Negro Edd" who burned a woman and child up in a house on Slones Branch. James Bevins hanged him on Elem St. in Pikeville in 1844. Elem St. has since been changed to Elm st.
