Cathelene May Justice

FALLS MILLS, Va. — Cathelene Mae Smith, 92, of Falls Mills, VA, went to be with her Savior on October 27, 2015 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC.
Born on August 9, 1923 near Logan, in the small town of Niebert. She was the last of 12 children born to Albert Peyton and Lena Elizabeth Osborne Justice.
A self-taught seamstress, she made clothing for her children. Later in life, she became a notable quilter. Graham Historical Society acclaimed her as one of the best quilters in the area. She helped design and quilt the Bluefield, VA Historical quilt that is on display at the Bluefield, VA Municipal Building. She had worked in sales and as a plastics inspector. She was the co-owner of Appalachian Coal Crafts and the co-curator of Smith's Coal Museum with her husband, the late Early H. Smith. They were married for 64 years. Together they built the coal wall at the Bluefield, WV Municipal Building. She was baptized at the Little Vine Church in Proctorville, OH and had been a Christian for 82 years. She was a member of the Falls Mills Christian Church.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Lena Hall formerly of Bluewell and her son, Grant F. Smith formerly of Lexington, NC; and her granddaughters, Ruth Darlene Hall, Annastasia Beavers, and Margaret Martin.
Survivors include: Daughters: Patricia A. Hall and the late David Hall of Mocksville, NC, Stella J. Sewell and Mark Sewell of Ypsilanti, MI, Brenda S. Beavers and Bill Beavers of Wittens Mills, VA. Grandchildren: Cathy Watkins, Candace Hall, Hank Hall, Pat Hall, Crate Hall, Rhonda Hodges, Millie McCoy, Martin Smith, Kim Decker, Charles Smith, Aaron Smith, Anne Rubin, Matthew Beavers, and Amanda Beavers. Almost 30 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Ministers Terry Hodges and Frank Watkins officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell with grandsons serving as pallbearers.
Friends may call on Saturday from 1:00-2:00 at the funeral home.
For those who wish not to send flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in honor of Mrs. Smith's daughters, Patricia Hall and Brenda Beavers, 5900 Broken Sound Pkwy NW, Boca Raton, FL 33487.
