WATERLOO - Bert Donald Medhaug, 95, of Waterloo, died Friday, March 16, at home.
He was born Nov. 23, 1922, in Lime Springs, son of Martin and Lena (Johnson) Medhaug. After high school graduation, he worked at Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Camp in Cresco until he was drafted into the U.S. Army serving in the South Pacific during World War II. Bert worked for Waterloo Valve Spring (Waterloo Industries). On May 7, 1949, he married Fay Morehouse in Waterloo. Together, they owned and operated Bert and Fay’s Jet Tavern until retiring in 1997.
Survivors: a son, Bert Duane (Jenny) Medhaug Jr. of Waterloo; a daughter, Joyce Meyer of Waterloo; a foster daughter, Pam Cotton-Cole; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Becky, Dalton, Haley, Amy, Adam and Angie; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: his parents; his wife; four brothers, Sanford, Howard, Edwin, and Gene Medhaug; and four sisters, Elsie Hartung, Anna Inman, Lucille Mintey and Elnora Murphy.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, 965 Home Plaza, with burial in Garden of Memories. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and for 30 minutes prior to services at the funeral chapel. Memorials: to the family. Bert enjoyed yard work, gardening and garage sales. He traveled with his family through much of North America from Canada to Mexico. Bert really loved his Chicago Cubs and celebrated their World Series Win in 2016.
