Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier, Waterloo, Iowa, Monday, August 3, 2009: Cedar Falls-- Howard Edwin Medhaug, 92, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, July 31, at his daughter's home in Rochester, Minn., of natural causes. He was born July 19, 1917, in Lime Springs, son of Martin and Lena Hansen Medhaug. He married Eleanore Crofoot on April 12, 1947, in Waterloo. She died Feb. 20, 1987. He married Bernice Ahern on Nov. 5, 1989, in Osage. She died May 11, 2000. Mr. Medhaug served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed as a smoked meat saw operator at Rath Packing Co. for 26 years, where he had served as the union steward, retiring in 1985. He was a member of Waterloo AMVETS Post 19, Pilots International Association and a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survived by: a son, Jimmie (Sharon) Tullis of Havana, Fla.; two daughters, Shirlie Sharpe of Rochester and Cynthia (Michael) Stewart of Cedar Falls; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bert and Gene (Janet), both of Waterloo; and a sister, Elnora of Waterloo. Preceded in death by: a daughter, Nancy Chamblee; three sisters, Rachel, Lucille and Anna; and two brothers, Sanford and Edwin. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and for an hour before services Saturday at the funeral home.
