The Southern Illinoisan, July 21, 2006, SESSER -- Loyd VanHoorebeke, 88, died Wednesday, July 19, 2006, in Franklin Hospital in Benton. Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 23, in Brayfield-Gilbert Funeral Home in Sesser, with Kirk Packer officiating. Burial will be Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 22, in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or American Cancer Society and will be accepted at the funeral home. Mr. VanHoorebeke was a farmer and a machinist. He was an army veteran of World War II. He was a member of First Christian Church in Sesser. He enjoyed working on the family history He was born on May 21, 1918, in Scheller to Frank VanHoorebeke and Edna Barrett. He married Corinne Kirkpatrick on June 14, 1942, in St. Charles Mo. Survivors include two daughters, Kala Bailey and her husband, James, of Libertyville, and Lorraine VanHoorebeke of Apache Junction, Ariz.; one son, Dennis VanHoorebeke and his wife, Nancy, of Gurnee; two grandchildren, Beth Bailey and Megan VanHoorebeke; one brother, Frank VanHoorebeke of Fountain Colo., and sister, Jewell Lemons and her husband, Lawrence, of Scheller. He was preceded in death by his parents.
