John K. Stockton

John K. Stockton was born 29 August 1840 at Bear Creek, Hancock County, Illinois. He was the son of Rev. James Montgomery and Susan Emily (Kirkpatrick) Stockton. He was a school teacher and was volunteer in Iowa in Capt. Douglas Dale's Company, enrolled 4 May 1861 at Bedford, Taylor County, Iowa. He was discharged 1 November 1861. He was 5' 11" tall, had blue eyes, medium complexion and brown hair. He married Abzira [Alzira] Crawford 20 March 1862 in Nodaway, Andrew County, Missouri. In 1866, their son, Lincoln Crawford (L.C.E.) Stockton was born in Missouri and in 1869, their daughter, Lillian was born. In 1887, the family lived in Trenton, Hitchcock County, Nebraska.
John K. also kept a diary of sorts, telling of the families move to the California Gold Fields in which he titled it: The Covered Wagon Story.
