Mary Ethel Kirkpatrick was born 15 June 1917 in Amory, Monroe County, Mississippi. She married in 1942 to John Robert King, who was born 22 June 1917 in Lee County, Mississippi.

The Oxford Eagle, Oxford, Mississippi, Wednesday, November 12, 2014: Mary Ethel Kirkpatrick King, 97, died Monday, November 10, 2014, at her daughter's home in Collins, MS, following a lengthy illness. A funeral service will be held Friday, November 14, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Oxford-University United Methodist Church with Rev. Warren Black and Rev. Eddie Rester officiating. Burial will follow in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service from12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at Oxford-University United Methodist Church. Born in Becker, MS, to the late Jim Wallace and Mattie Parchman Kirkpatrick, Mrs. King graduated from Becker High School and later from Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, MS, and obtained a master's degree in education from the University of Mississippi in Oxford, MS. Mary was a homemaker first, but also enjoyed a teaching career at both University High School in Oxford, MS and in the Lafayette County School District. She was a longtime member of Oxford-University United Methodist church and enjoyed may years in the Double Sunday school class. She was an avid quilter and shared her work with others. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, John R. King. Mrs. King is survived by two daughters, Martha Amy Fletcher and her husband, Larry of Panama City, FL and Mary Patrick "Patty" Robinson and husband, Larry of Collins, MS; three sons, John W. King and his wife, Dicki of Oxford, MS, James Richard King and his wife, Jean of Oxford, MS, and Robert David King and his wife, Harriet of New Albany, MS; one brother, Jimmie W. Kirkpatrick and his wife, Miriam of Becker, MS; a sister-in-law,Carolyn Kirkpatrick of Becker, MS; eleven grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. Memorial contributions in Mrs. King's memory may be made to Oxford-University United Methodist Church, 424 South 10th Street, Oxford, MS 38655 or a charity of the donor's choice.
