Jack E. Easterwood

(24 Aug 1913 - 4 Jun 2004)

Kerrville Daily Times, Kerrville, Texas, Wednesday, June 9, 2004: Kerrville -- Jack Easterwood went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 4, 2004, in Kerrville, at the age of 90. He was born on Aug. 24, 1913, in Fort Worth, to Arthur and Sudie Easterwood. In 1937, Jack married Agnes Heim of West Columbia, Texas, in Houston. Jack spent most of his career as a business owner of a home building and development company with building sites in the Houston, NASA, Pasadena and Clear Lake area for more than 30 years. He served as an officer and director in numerous organizations including banks, C of C, Rotary Club, Salvation Army, state director of NAHB, city and school tax appraiser, certified fee appraiser and other organizations. While he served as a president of the local NAHB chapter, he was elected a life member in the prestigious Spike Club of the National Association. Jack says that being chosen for this honor was the high spot of his career and one he would cherish the most. In 1983, Jack sold most of his business interests, saying that his God had blessed him so bountifully over the years that he wanted to spend his remaining time serving Him in some way where he received no monetary pay. He spent the next 12 years in prison ministry, conducting more than 500 services in prisons across the state and in the Caribbean, focusing special attention to the needs of the inmates' families. He then took additional training and served as a volunteer hospital chaplain for five years. He taught a choosing and planning their life career class at the local Juvenile Detention Center in Kerrville. A wonderful and loving husband and father, who will be missed. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Agnes H. Easterwood, of Kerrville; daughter, Twila Beckey and husband, Andrew, a retired Army colonel, of San Antonio; grandsons, Mark Beckey, of Allentown, Pa., and Matthew Beckey, of Belton, Texas; nephew, Charles Roach, of Fort Worth; and niece, Carla Owens, of Arlington. "We love ya, Jack." Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, June 11, and family will greet guests from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wright's Funeral Parlor. A Masonic funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 12, at Wright's Funeral Parlor with Chaplain Frankie Enloe officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Kerrville.
