Posted at findagrave.com: Mary Pauline Black, born in Jasper on June 28, 1922, crossed over to her next life to be with her Lord July 6, 2011, with her son at her side. She had been a patient for a brief period of time at New Beacon Hospice, Princeton Hospital, Birmingham. Visitation at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home will begin on Sunday, July 10, at noon with funeral services at 1:30 p.m., followed by burial at Boldo Cemetery. Brother Steve Vernon will officiate. Mary had a green thumb. She enjoyed working with her beautiful house plants, her outdoor garden, and the fruits and vegetables that she canned. Years ago while living in Jackson, Mississippi, she studied and trained to be a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked as a nurse in Jackson for the Baptist Hospital. Upon her return to Jasper she worked in the nursery at Peoples Hospital, a position she much enjoyed, until she retired. She was a member of the Jasper Independent Methodist Church and the VFW Auxiliary. Mary will be greatly missed by her puppy, Baby Doll, who brought her much happiness and joy the last eight years. Most recently activities she very much enjoyed included eating out at restaurants, taking day trips around the state with dear friends, Johnny and Betty Tyra, morning visits with young friend Megan Colburn, and Saturday lunches with friend and assistant, Mary Alexander. Mary was preceded in death by her sons, Thomas Black, Clifton "Sappo" Black, her parents, Dolphus and Lavonnie Black, brothers, Brack, Grady, Brady, and Ed Black, sister, Lorene Bush. Mary is survived by her son, Luther (Sonny) Black, and devoted sister, Marjorie Kilgore. Donations in Mary's memory may be made to New Beacon Hospice which provided excellent care to her in her last days.
