Ruth Olive Crumly
(18 Oct 1921 - 2 May 2012)
The Idaho Statesman, Boise, Idaho, Monday, May 7, 2012: Ruth C. Fry 1921-2012 Ruth C. Fry was born October 18, 1921 in Hanford, Calif., daughter of Charles L Crumly, and Margaret Shamel Crumly. She passed away on May 2, 2012 at home in Horseshoe Bend. Ruth moved frequently during her childhood with her family, as her father was an executive for the YMCA. The family lived in Hanford, Calif.; Visalia, Calif.; Corvallis, Ore.; Boise, Idaho, and San Diego, Calif., as her father moved to new positions with the YMCA. Ruth developed a lifelong love of learning. She graduated from Boise High School, attended the Oregon State University, and San Diego State University. Ruth married Jack Fry of Horseshoe Bend, Idaho on February 6, 1943. After the World War II, they moved to Moscow, Idaho to complete his education at the University of Idaho and Ruth completed enough classes at the University of Idaho to achieve Junior status. Upon Jack's Graduation, they moved to Horseshoe Bend, Idaho, where they were active in a cattle ranching operation. After Ruth's youngest child entered first grade, she secured a teaching certificate, and began a long teaching career. She completed her degree by attending summer school, night classes, and student teaching and graduated from the University of Idaho in 1969. Ruth taught at Horseshoe Bend School, Sweet School, and Butteview School in Emmett, where she completed her career teaching first grade. She taught more than 20 years. Mom always considered her teaching to be the second most important accomplishment; the first being the raising of her children. She raised five sons and two daughters and took great pride in their accomplishments and growth as individuals. Ruth was a long time member of Grace Lutheran Church in Horseshoe Bend, and served in many capacities, including years of service as pianist. She is survived by her husband Jack Fry of Horseshoe Bend, and sons Donald (Mary) Fry, of Arlington, Va., Robert (Gayle) Fry, Thomas (Carol) Fry, JC (Jean) Fry, and Michael (Cindy) Fry, all of Horseshoe Bend, daughters Patty (Jeff) Currier of Horseshoe Bend, and Margaret (Barry) Fujishin of Homedale, Idaho, and numerous grandchildren and great-grand children. Mom always expressed great love for all of her extended family. We celebrate a life well spent. Funeral services will be held at the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett, on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at 10:30 a.m., with internment following at the Pioneer Cemetery in Horseshoe Bend.
