From Daily Report newspaper, Feb. 21, 1956, page 3, col. 3: Sanborns Mark 50th Anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. John Halvor Sanborn of Three Rivers, Calif., were feted Sunday afternoon with a reception given in honor of the couple's 50th wedding anniversary at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Eleanor St. Clair of 605 Dahlia Ave., Ontario. Mr. and Mrs. Sanborn were long time residents in Ontario before moving to Three Rivers. They were married at the home of Mrs. Sanborn's parents, the last Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Kirkpatrick, who resided at 302 E. B St., Ontario. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Kirkpatrick who resided this area, coming to Ontario in 1889. In Forest Service. Mr. Sanborn and his family lived in Pomona. For thirty-six years he was with the U. S. Forest Service in the San Bernardino forest area. Amid decorations of gold and greenery and gifts of floral sprays, the couple was honored by approximately 100 family members and friends including their daughters Mrs. St. Clair and Mrs. Leona Bourdet of Puente and grandchildren Richard, 15, and Michael 17, St. Clair and Timmy 6, and Larry, 8, the Bourdet children. The oldest guest present was the couple's cousin, Mrs. Winifred Sanborn of North Hollywood, while the youngest guest was the couple's great nephew, David Southworth, 5 months old. Lifelong friends, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd G. Bumstead of 324 E. E St., Ontario, were among the guests as was Mrs. Rex Wignall of Claremont who served at the refreshment table. At the reception, held from 1 to 6 p.m., a three-tier white wedding cake decorated with gold flowers and the figures "50" on top was served along with tea and coffee. Mrs. Ruth Lester of Glendora circulated the guest book.
Obituary from the Los Angeles Times, February 9, 1964: Sanborn, John H., survived by his wife Mrs. Nellie R. Sanborn of Los Osos, 2 daughters, Mrs. Eleanor St. Clair of Ontario and Mrs. Louis C. Bourdet of LaPuente, sister Mrs. A. C. Lester of Yucaipa. 4 grandsons and 6 great-grandchildren. Services Tuesday 3 p.m. in Todd Memorial Chapel, Pomona. Interment Pomona Cemetery.
