Ernest "Claude" Miller

New London---Claude Miller, prominent farmer living four miles west of New London, died suddenly of a heart attack Monday afternoon at 1:30 while helping excavate the basement of the new Sumner Shores residence. He had just finished dinner and returned to work with his team and scraper when he was stricken, and fell dead.
He was born January 18, 1889 in Henry county and was the son of Charles F. and Mary (Staker) Miller. He was married to Leona Becker on Jan. 20, 1909 and spent his entire life in Henry County. He was a member of the I. O. O. F. lodge and of the Methodist church in New London. Mr. Miller was especially interested in all the affairs of the community and served as director of his school district, as well as being active politically.
Surviving are his wife and four children, Edwin E. Miller, Mrs. Harold Connaughton, both of Peoria, Ill.; Mrs. Jack R. Bennage of Danville; Donald Miller of Mt. Pleasant. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Roy Payne of Mt. Pleasant, and two brothers, James A. Miller of Mt. Pleasant and Emery Miller of Riverton, Wyo., and four grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. from the New London Methodist church with the Rev. Paul Ellis, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill cemetery. The body will remain at the McDonald funeral home until time for the service.
