William Emerson Gannon

Franklin St., where he had resided most of his life, died this morning at 4:45 in the Decatur County Memorial Hospital. He had been a patient about three days, although he had been in failing health for some time. Mr. Gannon was born Sept, 8, 1914, in Greensburg, the son of Patrick and Cecil Kirkpatrick Gannon. His father died Oct. 5, 1964, and his mother died Aug. 17, 1966. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Greensburg Elks, a charter member of the Greensburg Lions, and a past member of the Hillcrest and the Greensburg country club, having been an avid golfer. He became a part owner of Lucas Motor Express in 1958 and the full proprietor in 1962, when the headquarters were moved from Shelbyville to Greensburg. He retired in 1973 and sold the company to the Anderson Motor Co.

He was married to Dorothy Meek Aug. 31, 1935, and she survives, with two sons, William Alan Gannon, Harrisburg, N. C., and J. Michael Gannon, Hixson, Tenn.; his daughters-in-laws, Donna Gannon of Harrisburg, N.C., and Nancy Gannon, Hixson, Tenn., five grandchildren, Patrick Kirk, Mark Alan and Mary J. Gannon, Lexington, Ky., and Leigh Kathleen and Megan Maureen Gannon, Hixson, Tenn., and two step-grandchildren, Maggie and Thida Chokloikaew, Harrisburg, N. C.

The services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Mark Gottemoeller officiating and with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Monday at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home, where a rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m.
