Mrs. Cecil Gannon, 74, widow of Patrick Gannon and an active woman in retail business in Greensburg for many years, died at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday in memorial Hospital here. For several years she had been in declining health. Her condition had been critical for a month.
A native of Decatur County and practically a lifetime resident of Greensburg and community. Mrs. Gannon was the daughter of William A. and Ella Eubank Kirkpatrick. She was born on Oct. 11, 1891 and was reared in this community. Her marriage to Patrick Gannon took place in November, 1909. Her husband preceded her in death on Oct. 10, 1964, following a long illness. Mrs. Gannon was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church here. She was also affiliated with the Daughters of Isabella and the Greensburg Business and Professional Women's Club. For many years Mrs. Gannon was employed by retail firms here, including Lerman Bros., Page and Critser and Jackson Office Supply Company. Her last business assignment was as manager of Lords Ladies' Apparel Shop. In earlier years she and Mrs. Elmer M. Bull had been associated in operation of a beauty shoppe here. The survivors include: A son, William E. Gannon of Greensburg; two grandsons, William A. Gannon of Lexington, Ky., and J. Michael Gannon of Evansville; and three grandchildren. A brother, Clifford P. Kirkpatrick, passed away on Nov. 8, 1961. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday in St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. Joseph Laugel, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery here. Visitation at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home will be after 10 a.m. Sunday. A rosary service will be held at the funeral home at 8 p.m. Sunday.
