Robert Rex Aycock

Keith Wiseman. Private interment services will precede the memorial service.Born in Tulia, July 10, 1936 to H. Rex and Luella Woodward Aycock, Rex received his B.A. at Texas Tech and law degree from the University of Texas at Austin. He married Bonnie Jonas in San Antonio in 1961. Rex worked at Citizens National Bank in Lubbock after college, and was an investigator for the State Securities Board in Austin after being licensed to practice law in 1962. He was later general counsel for Lumberman's Investment Corporation before moving to Lubbock in 1964 when he joined the law firm of Nelson, McCleskey, & Harriger. He became a partner three years later and spent the next 40 years practicing civil and banking law. Named Outstanding Young Lawyer by the Lubbock County Bar Association, he served as its President, chaired the Professional Ethics Committee for eight years, was named Boss of the Year by the Legal Secretaries Association, and was recognized for his pro-bono work. He also served on the board of the State Bar Association Foundation.

Rex enlisted with the Texas National Guard, serving six months in the 5th Battle Group, Fort Ord, Calif. As an E2, he transferred to the 36th Infantry Division in Austin, was commissioned as a 1st Lt., JAG upon completion of his law degree, and completed his obligation in the Army Reserve Civil Affairs unit in Lubbock. Rex served his church and community at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, Southwest Lubbock Rotary Club, the United Way, YMCA, Prevent Blindness, South Plains Children's Shelter and Boy Scouts, especially with his sons in Troop 157. Rex was a sailor and furnished sailboats for the troops' summer camps. A licensed pilot of small engine aircraft, he earned his glider rating in 1980 and joined the Caprock Soaring Club. For more than 50 years, he was member of Tulia Masonic Lodge #733, and Lubbock Commandery #60, Knights Templar of Texas.

Preceded in death by his parents in 1996 and his son, Russell Alan, in 1990, he is survived by his wife, Bonnie; daughter, Christal Aycock, of Dallas; son, Andy and wife Shelagh Aycock; granddaughter, Kiley Aycock; grandson, Sam Aycock, all of Lubbock; brother, Charles Aycock and wife Margaret; niece, Karen Aycock of Amarillo; nephew, Chris Aycock and wife Sonya; great nephew, Matthew Aycock of Midland.
