Frederick Calhoun Kirkpatrick Sr.

Frederick Calhoun Kirkpatrick was the first child of Hiram Tinsley and his wife Mattie Reynolds. He was born at Elm Store, Randolph County, Arkansas on 20 Jul 1891. His education included study at Sloan-Hendrix College in Imboden, Arkansas. Subsequently he worked on the "Spring River News" at Imboden and there he learned every phase of the newspaper business. In 1912 he edited the "Marion Reform" at Marion, Arkansas and until 1914 worked on various papers throughout the state. In 1914 he went to Plainview, in Yell County, Arkansas and bought the "Fourche Valley Herald". He edited that newspaper until 1919, in which year he went to Walnut Ridge, Lawrence County, Arkansas and purchased the newspaper, "The Blade", and became its publisher. He owned several other newspapers in Arkansas. he later moved to Fort Smith, Sebastian County, Arkansas, where he died 27 November 1980. He and his wife were Baptists. Fred was a Mason and a member of the Plainview Lodge, No. 641, of which lodge he was at one time the secretary.
On 21 June 1914 he married Emma Gordon Coker of Hot Springs, Garland County, Arkansas, daughter of Floyd and Georgia (Westphall) Coker. She was born 10 April 1898 in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and died on 4 January 1989 in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas. At some time after the birth of their third child, they were divorced. Fred subsequently married Nola (Lowe) Wilson Harper, daughter of John Lowe. She had two children, Robert Jerry and Louise, by her first husband, Jerry Wilson.
Fred and Emma had three children of their marriage.
