Nellie Kenney

Nellie Kenney was born 13 August 1874 in Kahoa, Clark County, Missouri. After her father's death in 1897, she may have moved to Creston, Union County, Iowa where two of her uncles, Edward and Leroy Kenney, lived. She married on 6 September 1897 in Creston, Iowa, her first cousin, William Leroy Kenney, son of Leroy and Mary Dejernette (Baird) Kenney, who was born ca. 1873. William Leroy Kenney graduated from the University of Iowa Medical School in 1897. William and Nellie moved to St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri in 1901 where they lived until their deaths. William died on 11 August 1945 and Nellie died on 19 December 1950.
There were three (3) children born of the marriage.

Kenney, died last night at her home, 1831 Ashland avenue. She was a resident of St. Joseph for nearly 50 years and was a member of the First Methodist Church and a past president of the medical society auxiliary, the Parent-Teacher association, the ladies aid society of her church and the Service Star Legion. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Thomas B. O'Meara of the home; two sos, Commander LeRoy L. Kenney, United States naval medical department, stationed on Guam and Capt. William E. Kenney, Kansas City, Mo., a pilot for T.W.A.; five grandchildren and one great grandchild. The body is at the Meierhoffer-Fleeman mortuary.
