Wesley B. Sparks

Sparks, former resident of the lower valley and of the Fairmount district , who died last Friday in Denver, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Municipal cemetery. The Martin Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements. Mr. Sparks came to the Grand valley in 1908 and was engaged in farming near Fruita for a few years. He later moved the Fairmount section north of the city, where he operated a farm for many years. Mrs. Fannie Sparks, his wife, died Feb. 19, 1925, and he will be buried beside her. In recent years Mr. Sparks made his home in California. Last fall he went to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nellie Ley, in Denver, where he died.

Mr. Sparks was born Jan. 18, 1867 in Wisconsin, and he spent the early part of his life in Wisconsin and Iowa. He married Fannie Elnora Rogers Sept. 19, 1894, at Holstein, Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Sparks moved to the Grand valley in 1908 and resided in the lower valley for some time before moving to a farm on North Twelfth street. Mrs. Sparks died Feb. 19, 1925.
Mr. Sparks went to Long Beach, Calif., 12 years ago to reside and he had lived in that state until five months ago when he returned to Colorado, going to Denver to reside with his daughter, Mrs. Nellie L. Levy. He died at the daughter's home.
Surviving him are one son, Elton R. Sparks, Long Beach; one daughter, Mrs. Ley, Denver; one brother, J. E. Sparks, Grand Junction; and two grandchildren, Fred W. Ley Jr., and William E. Ley.
