Florence Schmeeckle Passes Away on Christmas Day.
Florence A. Schmeeckle, 85, of Cozad, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg. Services were held on Saturday, Dec. 28, at the American Lutheran Church of Cozad, with the Rev. Steve Berke officiating. Burial was at the Cozad Cemetery. Schmeeckle was born on Oct. 14, 1927, north of Cozad, to Alfred and Myrtle Kirkpatrick Anderson. Schmeeckle was preceded in death by: her husband Donald, in 1991; and infant grandson; a brother, Archie Anderson. Survivors include: a daughter, Marlene (Morry) DeLap of Lexington; three sons--Marlan of Gothenburg, Norman (Jean) of Hastings and Ron (Kelly) of Cozad; 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Visitation will be until 8 p.m. today at Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad. Memorials are suggested to the church. She was born Oct. 14, 1917, north of Cozad, to Alfred and Myrtle (Kirkpatrick) Anderson. She attended District 86 Rural School. On Nov. 7, 1940, she married Donald Schmeeckle. They lived and farmed on farmsites at Gothenburg and Cozad. They moved to Cozad in 1980. Her husband died in 1991. She was a member of the church at Cozad, the Coburg Extension Club and did volunteer work at the Henri Museum. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, and spending time with family. Survivors include sons, Marlan of Gothenburg, Norman of Hastings, and Ron of Cozad; daughter Marlene DeLap of Lexington; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother and an infant grandson.
