Atchison Daily Globe, Atchison, Kansas, Friday April 6, 1928, Page 6, Col. 2: Valley Falls. James Briscoe, universally known as "Jim" Pancoast, died at the family home Thursday morning after being confined to his bed for ten years by paralysis. With his parents he came to Valley Falls from Charles City, Iowa, in 1874, and this has been his home ever since. For years he was in the restaurant and shoe repairing business and commanded the admiration and respect of the entire community, for though afflicted with a disease of the bone that rendered his legs all but useless, he not only educated himself but accumulated a competency. He is survived by his mother, half-brother, William Pancoast, and half sister, Mrs. Belle Wilburn, at home, and a number of relatives in Iowa. The funeral services were held from the family home Friday, conducted by Rev. Chas. H. Kimball.
