Winchester, Nov. 17---James Edward Gillham retired Scott county farmer and prominent resident of this city, died suddenly at his home at 8:30 o'clock this morning. death was due to a heart attack. His health had not been good for the last several months, but in recent weeks his condition seemed improved. He was downtown yesterday afternoon, returning home at 5 o'clock apparently in his usual health.
Mr. Gillham was born in April 1863, at the Gillham homestead, seven miles north of this city; a son, of the late Judge and Mrs. William A. Gillham. He followed farming the greater part of his life. He married Miss Emma Jones, who preceded him in death eighteen years ago. Mr. followed farming near Riggston for many years before retiring and moving to this city. He continued active after coming here interesting himself in the city's public improvement program. He served the city in the capacity of alderman.
Decedent is survived by three daughters, Miss Maude Gillham, a teacher in Maywood schools; Mrs. Edward Lakamp of near Chapin, Miss Marjorie at home; four sons, Paul and Lawrence of Winchester; Harold and Ralph of Jacksonville; two sisters, Miss Mattie Gillham of Jacksonville and Mrs. John Gordon of Seattle, Wash.; two brothers, Jesse of Manchester and John of Winchester.

Gillham, 70, well known resident of this city, who died at his home Friday, were held in the local Christian church this afternoon. Rev. Joseph Camp of Streator officiated. Interment was in Gillham cemetery north of this city.
