Kirkpatrick, Sr and Helen Louise Cunningham Kirkpatrick. He grew up farming and ranching with his family. He had great stories he liked to share regarding his life. He was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War. While he was stationed at Hamilton Air Force base he met his future bride, Gladys Jean Rutter. He always said she caught his eye because she was taller than all the other girls in the office and her wonderful laugh. They were married May 6, 1951 in San Rafael with close family in attendance. They lived in Tiberon, Perris, Phoenix and then Woodland, raising two children, Leonard and Alice. While in Perris, he worked for McCrometer Corp.
Leonard moved his family to Woodland in 1970 when he was offered a manager of sales position working for All-Co. His dream was to be a pilot while in the Air Force, but was unable to due to a high school football injury. His dream came true when he received his private pilots license in 1973. Many times his children joined him when flying to So. Cal on business.
Leonard was a past Master Mason of Perris Lodge #411 and member of Woodland Lodge #81. He was also a member of many other organizations including Royal Arch, Yolo Shrine Club, Knights Templar, Ben Ali and Hedrick Ag Center. He was a past associate Bethel Guardian of Jobs Daughters Bethel #260 of Woodland. Leonard aka "Uncle Kirk" and Jean volunteered over 20 years and loved every minute.
Leonard is survived by his son, Leonard M. (Jeanann) Kirkpatrick, III, children, Justin, Tommy, Candy and their families; daughter, Alice (Steve) Espitallier, children, Anna, Maddie and Nathan; brother, Lawrence Kirkpatrick; brothers in law, sisters in law, many nieces and nephews and friends who were like family to him. Leonard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jean.
Services are scheduled for Friday, Dec. 12 at 2 p.m., at McNarys Funeral Chapel. Published in Daily Democrat from Dec. 10 to Dec. 12, 2014.
