Shafer, 69, of Arlington Heights, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, (4 blocks south of Palatine Road) Arlington Heights.
Born Nov. 22, 1927, in Zanesville, Ohio, he died Nov. 21, 1997, at Northwest Community Healthcare Center. Burial will be in Arlington Heights Wheeling Township Cemetery.
Mr. Shafer retired from United Airlines after 37 years of service as a Statistical Analyst.
Survivors include his children, Debra (Hormoz) Homampour of Yorba Linda, Calif., Diane Shafer of Arlington Heights, Dana (David) Hembd of Lake Zurich, and Deborah O'Connor of San Diego, Calif.; his grandchildren, Huetan, Alex, Heather, Maryrose and Michael; his brother, Jim (Jeannine) Shafer of Broomfield, Colo.; and his fiance, Helen Anderson of Arlington Heights.
He was preceded in death by his wives, the late Joan G. (nee Gesser) and the late Mary Elaine (nee Benson).
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Tuesday until time of the service at 1 at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to American Heart Association. For information (847) 253-0168.
