Shafer, (nee Gesser) 66, of Arlington Heights, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at the Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road (four blocks south of Palatine Road) Arlington, Heights.
She was born June 7, 1928, in Milwaukee, Wis.
Burial will be in Arlington Heights Wheeling Township Cemetery. She died Friday, Sept. 9 at her home.
Mrs. Shafer was retired as an operations manager from Unigard Insurance after 12 years of service. She was a former Girl Scout leader and enjoyed making and selling arts and crafts.
She is survived by her husband of 13 years William E. Shafter, whom she married on July 31, 1981; her daughter Deborah O'Connor; her stepdaughters, Debra (Hormoz) Homapour, Diane Shafer and Dana (David) Hembd; five grandchildren; her mother Jean Gesser and her brother John (Patty) Shafer.
She was preceded in death by her father John Peter.
Visitation will be from 9:30 until the time of the prayer service at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of donor's choice. For information (708) 253-0168.
