William Edward Shank, Brownsburg, Indiana, died Tuesday, December 9 while fishing on Lake Griffin in Leesburg, Florida. He was born on January 5, 1926 in Huntington, West Virginia and was the son of aviation pioneer Robert F. Shank and Lena Mae Scott Shank. He served in the United States Navy then attended DePauw University, where he received a Bachelors degree in journalism. He was long time manager and owner of the Bob Shank Airport in Indianapolis, which he and his father built from the ground up. He was a skilled airplane and helicopter pilot and enjoyed antique airplane restoration. He had many life-long musical and artistic interests and talents including designing and creating the stained glass windows in the sanctuary of Bethel United Methodist Church in Indianapolis. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Virginia, and is survived by his children, Cydney Wentsel of Bel Air, Maryland, Bob Shank of Brownsburg, Indiana, and Billy Shank of Carbondale, Colorado; five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Friends are invited to gather and attend a memorial service on Tuesday, December 16 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church, 5252 West 52nd Street, Indianapolis. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements: Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg.
