Fourth St., died of complications at 5:30 a.m. Saturday in Mercy Hospital. He had been ill for the last five years, seriously ill for one week. Born in Jackson County, Ky., May 30, 1891, he was the son of Fred and Betty Johnston Bales. Mr. Bales was a self-employed truck driver and a veteran of World War I. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Butler county Barracks 339, Veterans of World War I. He leaves one son, Robert Frederick, Bedford, Ind.; one brother, Chester Bales, Connersville, Ind., one sister, Mary Stout, Fredericksburg, Va., and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held in the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 330 Pershing Ave. Tuesday at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Ronald Taylor, youth minister of the N. Seventh St. Church of Christ. Burial will be in Millville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 o'clock this afternoon.
